Before I get into the details, let me explain a little bit about "9F Quartz".

I think many people know that in 1969, Seiko developed the world's first quartz watch that overturned the conventional wisdom of the watch industry.

Its influence was tremendous, and during the heyday of mechanical watches, it swept the world into a vortex of astonishment and swept the market.

Twenty-four years later, in 1993, Seiko embarked on the development of a new movement called "Quartz beyond quartz." He created the "9F Quartz", which is said to be the "superlative quartz movement" even today.

In particular, unlike mechanical watches, quartz cannot generate strong torque, but the birth of the "9F quartz", which can move luxurious thick hands, is Seiko's "brilliance" that touches the hearts of many people. It became an indispensable item in establishing the "Seiko style" devised with the aim of creating a "shining watch".

"SBGV247" was developed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the birth of such a superlative movement.

The new design with vertical streaks on the bezel contrasts beautifully with the mirror finish, and the vertical streaks on the sides give a sporty and light impression.

And when talking about Grand Seiko, the beauty and sharpness of the edges (corners) applied to the case are the details that cannot be overlooked. The ultimate case that stands out from other brands, is sharp yet fits comfortably in your hand, and is created by a manufacturing process called "Zaratsu polishing" that Seiko has treasured for a long time.

<What's Zaratsu polishing>

This polishing method has been used by Grand Seiko since ancient times, and because it requires a tremendous amount of labor, it is now rarely used by overseas manufacturers, and has become synonymous with Japanese luxury watches. The word "Zaratsu", which is also part of the original name, comes from the polishing machine manufactured by the Swiss company Zaratsu Brothers. is called.

In general, the manufacturing process of a case consists of (1) punching a metal plate into the shape of the case. (2) The punched case is further cut to form a detailed shape. ③ Polish the surface and prepare the base. ④ Polish with a buff with an abrasive for the final finish. The content can be divided into the contents, and the process of applying sallaz polishing is the process of ③.

Many manufacturers use a buff to polish even when preparing the base, but the corners of the case are inevitably removed and rounded. On the other hand, the Zaratsu polishing applied by Grand Seiko rotates an aluminum disc to which polishing paper is pasted, and presses the polished surface of the case against the front instead of the side. As a result, the metal surface is formed into a hyperplane, and the edges where the surfaces meet become more prominent.

With Zaratsu, it is necessary to press the case against the center and the periphery of the rotating disk at different times, which is another difficulty. You have to remember the difference with your body as a sense.

There is a video on YouTube that shows the state of Zaratsu polishing, so please take a look. After that, it is polished to a mirror finish with a finishing buff. You could say it's a process. The quality of the Zaratsu finish is determined by various factors such as the strength and weakness of the force applied to the rotating disk, the duration, and the speed at which it is slid. It's work.

The dial is embossed with a pattern of "9FGS" and a secret message "9F25" at the 25th minute position. Such a stylish performance is a very important point for fans. The caseback is adorned with a lion motif, the 25th anniversary lettering and a unique serial number.

This model also comes with a rubber belt. This watch is equipped with many sporty functions such as 20 ATM water resistance, 16000 A/m anti-magnetic performance, screw lock crown, and Lumibrite that glows in the dark. I hope you can use it for your style.
